Flash Frame by Frame Animation

The most basic form of animation is frame-by-frame animation. Lets try it. First, open a blank Flash file:

make a circle on the page by clicking on the oval tool on the right:

Click on the selection tool to select the circle, and then hit "copy" (cntrl-c)

Click on the grey box under the number 5 in the timeline on top of the screen.

Right click and choose "Insert Blank Keyframe"

You should now end up with a blank frame. Hit "paste" (cntrl-p) to paste the circle into this frame.

Now we want to position it based on where we had the first one. To see where the first one was hit "onion skin" which is the icon two over from the trash can:

now you can see where you had put the first one and move this one around accordingly.

Click on the grey box under the number 10 in the timeline on top of the screen.

Right click and choose "Insert Blank Keyframe"

Again paste the circle (ctrl-p) and move it to where you want it:

Lets see what you have so far. To preview it you have two options:

1) Click on virtical red line (from where the numbers are) in the timeline and drag it back and forth

2) Hit "Control" in the top menu and then "play".

Either way, one thing you will notice is that the transitions are choppy. Lets say we want them to be s smooth. No problem.

Click on the layer under the number 3 in the timeline on top of the screen (or anywhere between 0 and 5). You should see "properties" on the bottom of the screen that now have a drop box under "Tween". Choose "shape":

Now do the same thing between keyframes 5 and 10. Thus, click on the layer under the number 7 in the timeline on top of the screen (or anywhere between 5 and 10). You should see "properties" on the bottom of the screen that now have a drop box under "Tween". Choose "shape":

Now try to see what it looks like. Again, to preview it you have two options:

1) Click on virtical red line (from where the numbers are) in the timeline and drag it back and forth

2) Hit "Control" in the top menu and then "play".

You did it!

You could now export it as a "movie" to be played on the Web or elsewhere. Just hit "Export" and then "export movie".
